US strike leaves tanker crippled, three Indian crew missing
The US military has crippled the Settebello, an oil tanker sailing under Palau's flag, in the Gulf of Oman due to a breach of a naval blockade imposed by the US on Iran, with three Indian crew members missing and 21 rescued. This brings the total number of ships crippled by the US military following the naval blockade instituted since April 13 to eight, as a consequence of the closure of the vital Strait of Hormuz by Iran amid the ongoing war since February 2026. The Indians have reacted strongly to this act, summoning a US diplomat and demanding that targeting civilian shipping cease forthwith, as President Donald Trump threatens to pummel Iran "hard" over the delay in reaching a permanent peace accord.
